Recent political developments within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun Central have continued to generate discussions among political observers and stakeholders across the district.
According to information from reliable sources, former Ogun Central Senatorial candidate, Hon. Olumide Aderinokun, who contested the seat in the 2023 General Election, may have opted against making another bid for the Senate in 2027. Instead, indications suggest that he may be lending his support to Dr. Ibrahim Adesina Olaleye as the party’s potential standard-bearer for the contest.
This emerging scenario naturally raises important questions about the PDP’s strategy in Ogun Central. Is the party deliberately repositioning itself with a fresh face and a new approach, or does this signal a reduced appetite for a highly competitive contest against the incumbent?
The reality remains that Distinguished Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu enters the conversation with the advantage of incumbency and a growing record of legislative and constituency engagement. No doubt, his first term has provided him with valuable experience and stronger visibility across the senatorial district, factors that could significantly influence voter perception ahead of the next election cycle.
On the other hand, Dr. Ibrahim Adesina Olaleye’s possible emergence presents an opportunity for the PDP to test a different political formula. Whether this strategy will be sufficient to challenge the APC’s current dominance in Ogun Central remains a subject for political debate and public assessment.
