I am deeply disturbed by reports of military actions carried out in the north-west of Nigeria. My foremost concern is for the safety, dignity, and well-being of Nigerians living in the affected areas and nearby communities, particularly innocent civilians who may have been caught in the midst of these operations.
Such incidents inevitably generate fear, trauma, and uncertainty for ordinary people whose only desire is to live in peace. It is therefore critical that all actions taken in the name of security are guided by restraint, precision, and a deep respect for human life.
At the same time, it is important to recognize that Nigeria, in collaboration with the United States and the broader global community, is engaged in a difficult but necessary effort to confront and eliminate terrorist groups whose activities have brought immense suffering to our people. Terrorism remains a serious threat to national stability and civilian safety, and it must be addressed decisively.
In this regard, I encourage every Nigerian citizen to support the efforts of the Nigerian government and its international partners, including the United States, in the fight against terrorism. This support, however, must go hand in hand with a firm insistence that the protection of innocent civilians and respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty remain paramount.
I call on all parties involved to maintain the highest standards of accountability and to take every possible precaution to ensure that non-combatants are not harmed in the course of these operations.
May God, who is sovereign over all nations, have mercy on our people, comfort those affected, and guide leaders toward actions that uphold justice, human dignity, and lasting peace. I remain deeply concerned, yet resolute in the belief that unity, responsibility, and respect for life must define this collective effort.
